Steven Spielberg to executive produce new Amazon Prime series

Amblin Television signs deal to produce four hour mini-series Cortes

Steven Spielberg has signed on to executive produce his first TV project for Amazon Prime.

His production company Amblin Television has signed a deal to produce four hour mini-series Cortes, about legendary conquistador Hernan Cortes, with Javier Bardem set to star.

Spielberg is exec producing alongside Bardem, writer Steven Zaillian, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.

Cortes is the latest TV project from Amblin and joins the company’s other series The Americans, Bull, NBC’s upcoming Reverie, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and untitled Rev Run comedy, Apple’s Amazing Stories and Hulu’s Animaniacs.

“We are so pleased that Amazon has given us the opportunity to bring this exciting 500-year-old story to the Prime Video members worldwide,” said Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, co-heads of Amblin Television.

“It is a part of history that had such a significant impact and largely influenced modern day civilisations. With Javier as Cortes, we have the perfect star for this role, and we can’t wait to get started.”
