Italy’s Mediaset is reportedly close to acquiring Sony Pictures Television’s national DTT channels, with the two companies said to be in final negotiations over a deal.
According to local newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore. Sony would exit the Italian market following the sale of its channels Pop and Cine Sony.
Sony is said to have been in talks with a number of buyers in recent months including both Viacom and Fox, but the Mediaset talks appear to have gone the furthest.
It’s thought channel 45 (currently Pop) will be acquired through a joint venture with Turner Broadcasting System, while channel 55 will go directly to Mediaset.
