Comcast “no longer” looking at Fox’s film and TV assets

Company finally admitted it was interested in acquiring Sky

NBCUniversal owner Comcast has announced it is “no longer” interested in acquiring 21st Century Fox’s film and TV studio assets.

It was thought Comcast was keen to acquire Sky in the UK.

However, Comcast has dropped out of the race as Fox and Disney edge closer to agreeing a deal.

“When a set of assets like 21st Century Fox’s becomes available, it’s our responsibility to evaluate if there’s a strategic fit that could benefit our company and our shareholders,” Comcast said in a statement.

“That’s what we tried to do and we are no longer engaged in the review of those assets. We never got the level of engagement needed to make a definitive offer.”

It’s thought the announcement of a deal between Fox and Disney could happen sometime this week.
