BBC expands cloud migration with SAP on AWS

Further migration to cloud will enable the corporation to streamline processes and workflows, allowing it to focus on improving audience engagement

SAP has announced it is continuing to provide support for the BBC’s digital transformation.

Aiming to enhance efficiencies and simplify processes across its operations, the corporation is further deploying RISE with SAP running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Rolling out across IT systems including finance, HR and procurement, the expansion builds on a successful replacement of the BBC’s previous model of separate contracts for data centres and software licenses, reducing the need for maintenance, support fees and services.

Peter O’Kane, BBC chief technology officer, commented, “We want to make sure we’re investing the most we can in services for audiences. By simplifying our IT services, we can focus on running our business and ensure we’re meeting the needs of our viewers and listeners.”

“This marks a key moment in the BBC’s aim to streamline its business operations”, added Leila Romane, managing director of SAP UK and Ireland. “We are delighted to partner with the BBC and our solutions, backed by the security and availability of the AWS Cloud, means the BBC has the ideal foundation to deliver on its promise to serve all audiences.”
