Amplifier Technology gives boost to COFDM

Amplifier design specialist Amplifier Technology has developed a new range of booster amplifiers at 2.0 – 2.8GHz for COFDM video and outside broadcast, writes David Fox.

Its new 8800 and 8801 linear amplifiers for coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing are nominally rated at 1Watt and 5W respectively.

Both operate at between 2.0GHz and 2.8GHz for video using the QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM modulation schemes, which makes them suited for outside broadcast applications, for example for use with wireless cameras.

The 8800, measures 110x60mm, while the 8801 is slightly larger at 155x115mm. Both are portable, powered using a 12v supply. It is claimed that test results show “good linearity across the band”.
