This year’s MTV Movie Awards will include TV for the first time due to a “golden age of content.”
The annual event, which this year takes place on 7 May in Los Angeles, has been renamed as the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
MTV will also hold its first Movie and Television Festival outside the Shrine Auditorium, with live musical acts, special guests and food. Festival attendees will get a front-row look at celebs walking the red carpet for the awards show.
MTV president Chris McCarthy said: “We’re living in a golden age of content, and great storytelling and characters resonate regardless of whether you’re watching it in a theatre or on TV.”
“The new MTV Movie & TV Awards will celebrate even more of the brightest, bravest, funniest and most shared films and TV shows resonating across youth culture.”
