Gearhouse Broadcast has become the first reseller to sell Snell & Wilcox’s Alchemist Ph.C-HD. The unit has gone to leading conversion company Intervideo, and aims to ensure that HDTV content can be exchanged internationally across standards boundaries at the highest possible quality level with virtually no conversion artefacts.

Intervideo, celebrating it’s 30th year in the industry in 2007, purchased it’s first Snell & Wilcox Standards Converter back in 1994. In 1997 it purchased one of the first Alchemist Ph.C. converters. Gerry Wade, technical director at Intervideo has the responsibility for planning and upgrading the facilities at the company to keep pace with the changing technology.

On the purchase of the Alchemist Ph.C-HD Wade said: “Our decision to purchase the new Alchemist Ph.C-HD will allow us to offer the ultimate standards conversions quality when working in HD, whilst still enjoying SD on a daily basis. We have been waiting for Snell & Wilcox to produce a converter with Ph.C in HD for some time now and we did not want to make any compromises here. It seemed like the logical way forward for us based on their proven track record for conversion performance, equipment reliability and technical support.

“Our decision to buy this unit through Gearhouse Broadcast was based on the fact that, like Snell & Wilcox, they provide an excellent sales and technical support service which we just don’t seem to get from other people these days. They have been very much on the ball in finding the right technology for us at the right price. We have put the majority of our new equipment purchases through them already this year and would hope to continue to with this for many years to come. What I like about them is that just like our company, you can always deal with someone who can offer good advice and speak to a decision maker. Nothing is too much trouble for them.”

“We were delighted to have been able to work so closely with Gerry and the rest of team at Intervideo to ensure their migration to HD technologies went smoothly,” said Ben Murphy, sales manager at Gearhouse Broadcast.
