Glensound clocks a Swiss deal

Swiss national broadcaster SRG SSR has taken delivery of 16 new portable Glensound Digital Commentary Systems for use at large sporting events.

Swiss national broadcaster SRG SSR has taken delivery of 16 new portable Glensound Digital Commentary Systems for use at large sporting events.

Glensound’s new GDC-6432 systems will be used in the broadcaster’s Mercedes Sprinter Commentary Control Centres, and flight-cased for portable use. The commentary systems will be used for coverage of wide range of sports, including Alpine and Nordic skiing, cycling, athletics, rowing, tennis, soccer, volleyball, and golf.

Ernst Camenzind, assistant head of technical operations at SRG SSR, singled out the GDC6432 system’s audio quality, commentator interface, Ethernet link and price point for praise, adding: “one of the great advantages of this system is the interconnection between the dCCU (base station) and dCU3 (commentators box). Both BNC and Ethernet interconnections are available, making powering the dCU3 locally obsolete as it is powered from the link. Flexible and faster installation and immunity to power loss in the commentary area are the result,” he added.

Glensound has also integrated further features specific to SRG SSR, such as a three-port switch in the dCU3 for internet applications, explained Philippe Leuenberger, head of commentary operations. “An additional link to the commentator’s unit provided the extra three ports to the commentators to provide internet connections for their laptops. This was all achieved from the standard chassis, so incurring no extra space penalty over the standard unit.”

The Glensound GDC 6432 is available now for events with between one and 600 commentators.
