Twitter has partnered with Sky Sports to deliver ‘near-instant’ highlights from Premier League matches on its social media platform.

Users in the UK and Ireland will have access to all goals and key moments from all of Sky’s Premier League broadcasts throughout the 2016/17 season, as well as post-match analysis.

The clips will be available via the Sky Sports Football Twitter feed.

The move expands Twitter’s new focus on sporting content, having secured the rights for MLB and NFL coverage earlier this week.

Sky will be hoping that the deal will also bring an end to illegal highlight clips being posted on the social networking platform.

The copyright issue has been long-contested for the Premier League in particular, with mobile-recorded video posts facing regular deletion.
David Gibbs, digital director of Sky Sports and Sky News, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Twitter to bring in-game clips to football fans across the UK and Ireland as part of our biggest-ever season of football.”
