Stranger Things 3 drives Netflix subscription boost

New series streamed by 40.7 million households within four days

Research by Cowen & Co. has found that 13 per cent of former Netflix subscribers planned to re-subscribe in order to watch the new season of Stranger Things.

More than half of current Netflix subscribers said they planned to watch the series, which was streamed by a record-breaking 40.7 million households within four days of its debut according to the service.

In addition, nearly five per cent of consumers who aren’t current Netflix subscribers said they planned to subscribe to the service to watch the show.

“We view these figures as notably positive given the potential to drive gross sub additions both at the end of 2Q19 and into 3Q19 on the back of arguably Netflix’s highest-profile show,” said Cowen & Co.
