Sky Deutschland adds Sky Q from May

Service will launch through a software update rather than a new set-top box

Sky Deutschland has announced it will launch Sky Q in Germany and Austria from next month.

The service will be made available to customers free of charge via a software update to the Ultra-HD-capable Sky+ Pro receiver overnight. Sky Q will also be available for all existing customers who do not yet own a Sky+ Pro receiver as well as new customers.

The Sky Q app will also be available on Apple TV (4th generation) and Samsung Smart TVs (2015 and above models).

Sky Deutschland has also announced that from this summer it will launch Sky Soundbox, the multi-room IP box. Sky Q Mini and Voice Control will also be introduced. Following its launch in the UK, Netflix will also be integrated into Sky Q in Germany, Austria and Italy.

Sky Deutschland is also planning to relaunch its content packages and pricing structure to coincide with the Sky Q launch.
