Wohler reveals MADI-8 monitor

Wohler Technologies announced the launch of its new MADI-8 multichannel audio monitor at NAB which utilises the Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI or AES10) protocol enabling audio signals to be transmitted over long distances.

Wohler Technologies announced the launch of its new MADI-8 multichannel audio monitor at NAB which utilises the Multichannel Audio Digital Interface (MADI or AES10) protocol enabling audio signals to be transmitted over long distances. The MADI-8 enables broadcasters to take advantage of MADI support achieving more channels per line and the protocol’s use of coaxial and optical fibre enabling the transmission of audio signals up to 3,000 metres. Workflow is simplifies by reducing the amount of heavy cable typically associated with traditional analogue or AES audio distribution. Although aesthetically similar to Wohler’s VMDA-SUM8 eight-channel analogue/digital continuity motor, the MADI-8 can be connected in a series within a 64-channel MADI stream for audio monitoring of up to eight assigned channels. The monitor has a 16-character by two-line LCD display, and both coax and optical MADI inputs and outputs, built-in speakers, mixed two-channel or mono analogue outputs, and eight presets. The 1RU chassis is designed to fit into tight spaces such as crowded production trucks. “In addition to serving the broadcast TV market, the MADI-8 offers a cost-effective and powerful solution for any organisation,” insists Jeff McNall, Wohler’s product line manager for audio and video products, “incorporating the monitor as part of an overall workflow for live sound recording, studio recording, and broadcast productions.”
