Wirecast 4.2 hangs out with Skype

Telestream’s new Wirecast 4.2 live streaming production software adds direct source input for Skype and Google Hangouts, plus capture support for Matrox, AJA, and Blackmagic devices, as well as new features for video gamers.

Telestream’s new Wirecast 4.2 live streaming production software adds direct source input for Skype and Google Hangouts, plus capture support for Matrox, AJA Video Systems, and Blackmagic Design devices, as well as new features for video gamers.

A new virtual camera output feature allows Wirecast for Windows to be picked up by any device or software that takes a camera source, such as Skype and Google Hangouts.

Wirecast 4.2 now supports more video capture devices, including integration with the MatroxVS4 multi-channel video capture card, Blackmagic Thunderbolt-based Intensity Extreme and UltraStudio 3D devices, plus the AJA Io XT device and AJA Kona LHi capture card.

“The new virtual camera output feature in Wirecast 4.2 is an extremely beneficial feature for all internet broadcasters, offering lots of flexibility in sending video output to other applications like Skype,” said Andrew Zarian, CEO of Guys from Queens Inc. and co-founder of the International Association of Internet Broadcasters.

New Wirecast features for video gamers include custom canvas sizes and support for the AVerMedia Game Broadcaster HD card, enabling game capture up to 1080p. Quality and performance gain a boost with an update to Flash libraries. In addition, support for Apple’s latest OS X Mountain Lion is included.

“We are excited to extend Wirecast to a growing number of users with new features that address the needs of video gamers and people who are communicating through Skype and Google Hangouts,” said Barbara DeHart, vice president of marketing at Telestream (pictured left picking up the IBC2012 Innovation Award for content management for the Telestream NASCAR Project from IBC’s Professor David Crawford). “Wirecast provides a cost-effective solution for the creation and streaming of professional-quality live video productions to all types of online audiences,” she added.

Wirecast is claimed to be the only cross-platform, all-in-one live streaming production software that enables capture, live production, and encoding of live streams for broadcast to multiple servers and platforms simultaneously. It is suitable for streaming or recording live internet shows, broadcasting breaking news and sports, streaming live concerts and other live events.
