Streambox and Blackmagic make mobile contribution

Blackmagic Design has partnered with video over IP technology developer Streambox to provide a live HD video transport system for mobile users to capture and stream 1080i HD video over IP. “Until now, capturing high-quality video on-the-go has been limited to clunky hard-to-manoeuvre third-party products,” said the companies. “This solution now provides users with a high-quality, low-cost, complete software-based, portable solution for live HD video.” The workflow begins with HDMI or HD-SDI video input from the camera to Blackmagic‘s UltraStudio Mini Recorder, using a Thunderbolt connection to Apple notebook or Mac Mini desktop. Streambox Hybrid HD/SD software will encode the video and provide the user with options to transmit using a Streambox technology that facilitates high-quality, low-latency video over multiple IP networks. Some options include transporting live video by bonding several 3G/4G/LTE modems, WiFi, DSL, cable modems and satellite terminals such as Inmarsat BGAN or ViaSat. At the receiving end, the video can be sent to a dedicated Streambox HD decoder, Enterprise Server or Streambox Media Player. Streambox has also announced a low-cost live video play-out system using its Streambox Media Player Pro software, which is installed on a Mac Mini or Apple notebook. This also works in combination with an UltraStudio Mini Monitor to convert incoming video into HD-SDI or HDMI output streams. Streambox Media Player Pro provides a range of features, such as 1080i or 720p upconvert, PAL frame rate transcoding and teleprompter modes. Blackmagic’s UltraStudio Mini Recorder is also supported by the OSX version of StreamboxME Pro for video encoding and newsgathering available as a cloud service or direct to decoder applications.
