Plans to build Hull’s first TV and film studio have been approved by the local council.
The £3 million development will feature a 19,700sq ft soundstage as well as dressing rooms, office space and temporary accommodation for visiting film crews.
The project is being led by independent film production company Northern Films. It is due to open by the end of 2025.
Northern Films has said that once the facility is operational, visiting film companies will only be able to hire the facility on condition they agree to take on local people seeking a career in the industry.
“Currently, Hull and the surrounding area [have] no permanent film production infrastructure. However, this commitment and investment into the Humber Region will be the start of something very special for Hull,” said the company.
