New film and TV studio to open in Oxfordshire

Video game company Rebellion has bought the studio near Didcot

Video game company Rebellion is opening a new TV and film studio in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The site, which is a former print works, will be home to Rebellion’s new Judge Dredd TV series, Judge Dredd: Mega-City One, and film Rogue Trooper, directed by Duncan Jones.

The studio will also be available to third parties to use on non-Rebellion projects. According to the company, parts of the facility will be ready for use within weeks, without the need to go through the lengthy planning permission process.

The site and stages are valued at $100 million and the company expects to create up to 500 new jobs as the studio begins operations.

Chief technology officer Chris Kingsley said: “Our creative industries are appealing to other markets for our talent and generous tax reliefs – and we must ensure we have the studio space and infrastructure to keep furthering this ongoing growth.”
