Proving that there is life in London post yet, JCA is earmarking £1m for a further expansion of its film restoration services, including the purchase of one of the only ARRISCAN film scanners in the UK equipped with an Arri 16 mm Wet Gate.
The ARRISCAN will support high speed scanning in 2k resolution to facilitate accurate, high quality light and colour correction, grading and management of fragile film materials. The ARRISCAN 35 mm and 16 mm Wet Gates, which can accommodate colour and black-and-white film stocks, wash away dust and conceal scratches before images are scanned.
Nick Pannaman, Managing Director at JCA said: “We have had excellent feedback from new and existing clients about our current restoration service and are responding to increased demand with this investment. JCA’s business is now so data centric and we are able to complete any media project that needs to move into a digital workflow. The ARRISCAN is not only the best scanner on the market, but it provides us with a scanning speed that will increase our productivity considerably. That, combined with ARRI Wet Gate technology and the Kodak Digital ICE options as part of the package, will enable us to satisfy the most complex of restoration projects.”
This investment coincides with a 40% increase in staffing within the department over the last six months, and comes in the wake of several restoration projects. As part of the expansion, JCA has successfully branched out from TV into feature films, and has already worked on films including Beneath Hill 60, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Infidel, Let Me In, Resident, Sliding Doors, Street Dance 3D (the highest grossing 3D film in the UK this year), The Way Back and Wake Wood.
