The Story Collective opens “largest film and TV studio in the heart of London”

The Story Collective has gradually repurposed the former Mortlake Brewery to include production offices, workshops and sound stages

The Story Collective has announced the opening of The Story Works, a new film and television studio complex on the site of a former brewery.

Co-founded by TV and film producers, Simon Vaughan and Damian Keogh, The Story Collective has gradually repurposed the former Mortlake Brewery to include production offices, workshops and sound stages. Formally opening the 22-acre complex, the company announced The Story Works as “the largest film and television studio in the heart of London.”

For the last two years, the site has hosted Disney+, with an outdoor set created for its forthcoming drama series, A Thousand Blows, co-produced by The Story Collective, Matriarch Productions and Water & Power Productions.

The founding team also includes Hollywood studio FIFTH SEASON (formerly Endeavor Content) and Kwame Kwei Armah, outgoing artistic director at The Young Vic.

Sustainability is at the heart of its vision, said the company, with the riverside site’s proximity to transport links aiming to reduce traffic flow and an intention to recycle, restore and reuse as much as possible.

Simon Vaughan, chairman and CEO of The Story Collective, said: “Our mission began because we fell in love with the Brewery and its amazing buildings while shooting here. Over time this has evolved into us now opening our doors as a major new film and television studio in London.

“The UK has long been the centre of excellence for TV and film production – great crews, craft, talent and tax credits and we have some of the world’s most prestigious and amazing film studios. But never has it been possible to build a major TV series or feature film at studios so close the centre of town. We are now open for business and ready to welcome our next production.”
