London mayor approves Dagenham Studios plan

“These spectacular new studios in Dagenham East will be a huge boost for the borough, the industry and our city,” said Sadiq Khan

London mayor Sadiq Khan has given his approval for a new TV and film studio based in Dagenham.

The complex will include six sound stages, production offices and set construction workshops built on former industrial land. It is expected to create 1,200 jobs and contribute £35 million per year to the local economy.

Last year the development was reportedly in trouble due to uncertainty over Brexit. However, it seems those fears have now passed with both the local council and the London mayor giving their approvals.

Earlier this month the project received a £5 million grant as part of the government’s Getting Building Fund designed to create jobs and support the country’s economic recovery

“These spectacular new studios in Dagenham East will be a huge boost for the borough, the industry and our city,” said Khan.

“Our culture and creative industries have been significantly impacted by Covid-19, but our successful film and TV industries can play a key role in our economic recovery.”
