The French broadcaster, France 3, has selected Opticomm to equip three new outside TV broadcast trucks to provide service for high definition television production in the regional centres of Marseille, Rennes and Lille, writes Fergal Ringrose. The three systems, deployed and integrated by the French Opticomm partner Alpha Photonics, includes bi-directional fibre links and interfaces for HD-SDI, SD- SDI, analogue audio, AES/EBU, Ethernet and Contact Closure.
The configurations were designed using the Optiva platform, the new modular series of products from Opticomm, which has quickly taken a prime position in the fibre optic transport industry due to its ability to digitally multiplex an unequalled number of interfaces for video, audio and data on the same lambda, all at the client's selection and tailored configuration. Optiva also offers compatibility with standardised control standards such as SNMP. With a broad range of applications in the broadcast, telco, multimedia and surveillance markets, Optiva has rapidly become one of the flagship product series from the company.
France 3 indicated that: "...after having evaluated several alternatives, Opticomm is the solution that, because of its multiple interfaces and upgrade options, best fits the needs of the new OB vans for France 3."
Allon Caidar, VP of business development for Opticomm, commented: "We are grateful to France 3 for the confidence they have shown in selecting Opticomm for such an important broadcast network. This project is yet another example of Opticomm's leadership in video and audio optical transport in Europe."
