Mobilelinks updates OB truck fleet to meet UEFA Champions League requirements

The Appear-powered uplink trucks will go live as part of Mobilelinks coverage of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

Mobilelinks has selected live production technology provider Appear to upgrade its DSNG trucks to comply with the latest technical requirements for UEFA Champions League contribution.

The collaboration ensures Mobilelinks can meet the UEFA requirement for HEVC encoding, BISS-CA encryption and DVb-52X modulation.

Appear’s X20 platform provides Mobilelink with DSNG uplink and downlink/IRD functionality integrated into a single unit. Both encoders and modulators included in the solution support the latest standards, including HEVC UHD and DVB-S2X. The X20 incorporates an SRT feature, enabling contribution over the internet in addition to satellite and managed IP options.

By integrating IRD functionality, Appear’s X20 chassis enables the uplink to be monitored in the same unit, via a unified user interface, said the company. Support for additional channels can be added, as well as support for 2110 interfacing and contribution over IP with ultra-low latency codecs such as JPEG-XS. The platform’s workflow management – XPanel – enables remote monitoring of all content processing and delivery functionalities on the truck, added Appear.

β€œThe unique and flexible chassis-based architecture of our X Platform enables us to deliver a comprehensive solution, providing fully integrated contribution including advanced encoding, decoding, uplink and signal monitoring – providing Mobilelinks with greatly simplified operation. This is critical when a truck may be covering several events over a short period of time,” said Gunnar Nessa, sales director, Nordics, at Appear.

The company said the Appear-powered uplink trucks will go live as part of Mobilelinks coverage of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (Czech Republic, 10 – 26 May, 2024).
