EVS serves sports stadia

EVS has won contracts to provide production systems at two major sports venues: Friends Arena in Stockholm and the new Ashkabat Olympics Complex in Turkmenistan, built in preparation for the 2017 Asian Games.

EVS has won contracts to provide production systems at two major sports venues: Friends Arena in Stockholm and the new Ashgabat Olympics Complex in Turkmenistan, built in preparation for the 2017 Asian Games.

In Stockholm, the Friends Arena is served by Onside TV Productions, which ordered the new installation through systems integrator Danmon Svenska. The system includes three control rooms, and provides coverage for the major music and entertainment events held at the stadium, as well as the home matches of AIK Football Club.

The installation includes an eight channel XT3 server and IPDirector content management system. Highlights can be packaged directly in IPDirector, or prepared in EVS Xedio CleanEdit or directly attached Final Cut Pro seats. The system also includes Cisco’s Stadium Vision, an IPTV network feeding 647 different screens around the venue to enhance the match-day experience.

“Our production centre also serves as a master control room for the recording of all live feeds from the other Allsvenskan matches – the Swedish top-tier football league,” explained Jan Arvidsson, technical manager at Onside. “We chose an EVS six-channel XS server to ingest the live feeds and IPDirector to log them and create highlights that we can provide to the clubs for their own websites and match-day entertainment.”

In Turkmenistan EVS has been contracted by Policom Technology, the systems integrator responsible for the multimedia installation in the new Ashgabat Olympics Complex. “This is a major project that will have a significant impact in the region. The venue is designed to show that it is a key contender for hosting major international sporting events,” said Burak Dagdeviren, project co-ordinator at Policom Technology. “It was important that the live broadcast facilities matched the same brief.”

The complex will include two sports arenas, an indoor velodrome and three production studios. Also in the contract is an international broadcast centre and an outside broadcast truck. The installation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2013. It includes EVS XT3 and XS servers, IPDirector management and Xedio CleanEdit editors.
