AWS makes it easier to build uncompressed video workflows in the cloud

New AWS Cloud Digital Interface flows support uncompressed video transport up to UHD 2160p60 at a latency between nodes of only 1 frame

AWS Elemental Media Connect’s live video transport service is making it easier for broadcasters and content creators to build uncompressed video workflows in the cloud with the introduction of support for AWS Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI) flows.

The company has also introduced support for JPEG XS encoding and decoding on its AWS Elemental Live on-premises encoder via the 2.21.3 GA software release.

MediaConnect CDI enables companies to build uncompressed video workflows in AWS Cloud, using MediaConnect to link different products and services together into a virtualised live video production system.

It also supports uncompressed video transport up to UHD 2160p60 at a latency between nodes of only 1 frame, as well as JPEG XS video input and output. According to AWS, this means that its AWS Direct Connect can be used to bridge on-premises SDI and SMPTE 2110 video networks to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud VPC live video networks.

Using JPEG XS can also reduce cloud video bandwidth by up to 90 per cent without sacrificing quality or latency, said the company.
