UEFA and Friend MTS continue fight against piracy

The agreement aims to ensure UEFA remains one step ahead of online bad actors

UEFA has extended its partnership with Friend MTS.

Under the new agreement, the cybersecurity company will continue to provide European football’s governing body with a range of services aiming to combat piracy.

Backed by a 24×7 operations team, Friend MTS will provide global monitoring and defence against online bad actors, deploying a suite of tools including dynamic delivery server blocking, payment disruption of illegal IPTV services, removal of unauthorised apps from stores and de-listing of content infringing links from search engines.

Shane McCarthy, CEO at Friend MTS, said, “UEFA has been a trailblazer in protecting the beautiful game with effective anti-piracy and cybersecurity techniques as demonstrated by the success of the recent UEFA EURO 2024 campaign. As the new football season gets underway, we are continuing to work together to deploy and evolve our anti-piracy solutions and insights.”

Piracy involving social media and messaging apps is addressed separately with UEFA investing “significant resources” to protect its content.
