Friend MTS has appointed Dave Gilmore as its new VP of intelligence.
Reflecting growing demand from broadcasters and content owners, Gilmore will head up a new team of data, cyber and intelligence analysts aiming to disrupt piracy by identifying and detecting human sources of unauthorised streaming and service theft. Identifying vulnerabilities and emerging threats, the team will provide actionable intelligence to mitigate risk and work with authorities to strengthen enforcement, said the company.

Gilmore joins FMTS following a career which includes working as a member of Europol’s IP Crime Experts Network and Ireland’s Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. As co-lead on Europol’s Operation Aphrodite, he was involved in finalising 67 piracy operations in Ireland. He also led a brand protection team during the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Most recently, he held the position of associate director in cyber consulting at KPMG, where he specialised in cyber investigations, digital trust, brand protection and insider threats.
Shane McCarthy, Friend MTS CEO, said, “As content owners increasingly expect to underpin decisions about their anti-piracy strategies with data and insights, we are building a new team under Dave Gilmore’s leadership to meet this growing demand. Dave’s breadth of experience is second to none and his skillset is the perfect complement to our business intelligence professionals.”
Speaking about the appointment, Gilmore added, “FMTS offers content owners a formidable combination of human intelligence, cyber capabilities, monitoring and its piracy database. Together, these give the company unparalleled insights into the sources and methods behind global piracy. I look forward to building on its existing business intelligence capabilities and capitalising on new business opportunities with new, innovative service offerings.”
