SMPTE has announced the formation of a Content Provenance and Authenticity (CPA) in Media study group.
The project aims to identify CPA technologies, areas of work and activities in professional media organisations, recommending areas in which SMPTE can either create new or update existing standards to support the flow of content provenance and authenticity information.
A key focus for the group will be the carriage of CPA information in MXF files, meeting an urgent industry need, said SMPTE. Use cases and requirements will be gathered, with findings and recommendations summarised and presented in study group reports.
SMPTE’s director of standards and head of the CPA in Media Study Group, Thomas Bause Mason, said, “The CPA SG was established at a critical juncture, as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into media production. In this evolving landscape, ensuring that audiences can trust the authenticity of the content they consume is more important than ever. The SG will explore how CPA-related information can be transported effectively and securely across today’s professional media infrastructure.”
The group includes representatives of the SMPTE Standards Community from Ross Video, Sony, Adobe, European Broadcasting Union, and Metaglue. More information about SMPTE’s Standards processes, committees and working groups can be found at smpte.org/standards/overview.
