PGA Tour plans “first of its kind” Twitter multicast

Twitter will offer nine versions of a live stream across 20 different accounts

To mark the resumption of competition, the PGA Tour is planning what it calls a “first of its kind” nine different video streams multicast on Twitter.

The tour resumes for the Charles Schwab Challenge, June 11-14th at Colonial Country Club in Ft Worth, Texas.

During the opening round on 11th June, the PGA Tour and Twitter will host a “Twitter Multicast,” which will be broadcast from approximately 1-2.30pm ET in conjunction with PGA Tour Live’s featured groups coverage. It will be available to golf fans around the world.

The Twitter Multicast will offer nine versions of the live stream with distribution from more than 20 different Twitter accounts. The video streams will cover pre-game, practice sessions, and the first two holes of competition. Each stream will also include live audio/video commentary from commentators.

Rick Anderson, the PGA Tour’s chief media officer, said, “With no spectators on site, we want to work harder than ever to connect our fans to the event, across numerous platforms and devices. Working with Twitter on this all-new fan engagement initiative is a nod to how important fans are to the Tour and our players.”

“This first-ever Twitter Multicast will give golf fans a viewing experience they won’t find anywhere else,” added TJ Adeshola, head of US sports partnerships for Twitter. “By adding conversation and commentary from a range of Twitter notables to premium golf content, the Multicast will have something for everyone.”
