Netflix goes linear

Netflix Direct is available to viewers in France using the streamer's web platform

Netflix has launched a new linear version of its content in France.

Netflix Direct is currently only available via the streamer’s web platform.

Users click on the Direct button on the Netflix home screen which takes them to a pre-defined programme where they will join the show at whatever point it’s at – as a viewer would with traditional linear programming.

A programme schedule of what’s on offer will be published every five days, said the streamer.

Netflix said it has decided to launch Direct because linear viewing remains so popular in France. It added content will still be available for viewers to stream whenever they want. It hopes the new option will help promote some of its French-language and European content to viewers.

Netflix Direct has begun to roll-out and should be available to all subscribers in France by December.
