Media Distillery has launched an automated preview generation solution, Preview Distillery.
The latest addition to Media Distillery’s product suite, the AI-driven solution provides automatically created representative preview clips from live broadcasts or on-demand video content.
Aiming to enhance content discovery, Preview Distillery generates programme previews in near-real-time. Utilising AI technologies including scene detection, content segmentation/chapters, topic detection, audio and speech detection and more, the solution performs audiovisual analysis of content, generating programme previews without the need for human intervention. Spoilers are avoided by ensuring previews only contain content from the first part of a programme, said the company. Leveraging the company’s EPG Correction Distillery and Ad Break Distillery technology, Preview Distillery ensures its content does not contain ads.
The solution aims to reduce viewer churn by enhancing the decision-making process. Martin Prins, head of product at Media Distillery, explained, “We see today’s entertainment paradox. Viewers have an abundance of content to choose from, from many different video services. But this seemingly limitless array can make it difficult to decide what to watch, and may lead to choice fatigue: too much unsuccessful browsing and they might simply switch off in frustration.”
Research from Media Distillery’s partner, Gracenote, found consumers can be overwhelmed with choice, taking an average of 10.5 minutes to choose what to watch.
“The old adage is that a picture is worth a thousand words,” added Prins. “With Preview Distillery we’re providing even more with a videoclip that gives a representative snapshot of the program the viewer is considering.”
