HBO Maximises viewer engagement with franchise-led UK and Ireland podcast launch

The move, aiming to enhance immersive fan experiences, follows a period of significant growth in the visual podcast market

HBO Max has announced it will host a range of franchise-led podcasts on its service in the UK and Ireland.

Building on the growth in demand for immersive experiences, the platform is aiming to expand audience engagement, making behind-the-scenes access and creator-led conversations accessible from a single place.

Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast debuts today (May 19th), hosted by broadcaster and critic Rhianna Dhillon, providing insights, special guest conversations and high-level film discussions around eight of the Harry Potter movies. The visual podcast is exclusively available on HBO Max, with audio versions on platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

A further slate will be rolled out in June, anchored by the Game of Thrones universe. The service will feature additional companion podcasts to some of HBO Max’s most popular content, including The Last of Us, The Pitt, The Comeback and Sinners: In Proximity.

The move follows continuing expansion of the visual podcast market, as broadcasters and streamers seek new ways of engaging with audiences. Later this month, TVBEurope, in conjunction with sister titles Radio World and TV Tech, will release Eye-catching audio, a free ebook exploring the world of visual podcasting.
