Riedel Communications’ Virtual SmartPanel (VSP) has been deployed by Düsseldorf production company, Buildquadrat.
Continuing an infrastructure upgrade programme aiming to provide greater flexibility in its use of different interfaces and port licences, Bildquadrat has replaced existing Artist G2 frames with IP-based Artist-1024 systems. The VSP provides an additional software-based option for users without a requirement for a dedicated hardware panel.
Connecting to Artist-1024, VSP allows integration into a production’s intercom system, enabling reporters, mobile camera crews and other personnel to be brought into existing communications setups via smartphone. The company has also developed its own dashboard to enable remote monitoring and management of status information and user data for its VSP environment, blending flexible access with centralised monitoring.
Niklas Windeck, Bildquadrat’s MD, said, “The biggest advantages of the VSP for us are its flexibility and scalability. When teams grow on short notice or additional team members at other locations need to be brought in, we can easily integrate them into our production communications using their smartphones. That makes a real difference for us, especially during dynamic live productions.”
Benedikt Krönung, sales manager Broadcast West, Riedel Communications, added, “Bildquadrat is a valuable partner for us because the team consistently translates new technologies into real-world production workflows while also providing us with direct feedback from the field. Our collaboration goes back many years and spans various areas of our portfolio — from MediorNet through Bolero and Artist to VSP.”
