ARRI has announced an expansion of its ALEXA 35 camera range with the launch of its new ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme, aiming to meet the needs of live events broadcasts such as sports and entertainment.
The camera features a permanently installed High Speed License for ALEXA 35 and a new High Frame Rate SDI License. When combined with the ARRI LPS-1 Fiber Camera Adapter and Fiber Base Station (and a standard slow-motion playout server such as SimplyLive or EVS), ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme outputs HFR at up to 8x in HD or 2x in UHD. Up to 4x HFR can be output via a single SDI connector, with higher speeds split across both SDI outputs.
Frame rates up to 330 fps use the full dynamic range of 17 stops, with a Sensor Overdrive mode that allows rates up to 480 fps at a dynamic range of 11 stops, said the company. A live feed for broadcast is output for whatever frame rate is selected for the slow-motion feed, enabling real-time switching between programme frame rate and HFR. Motion blur and shutter effects in the live feed are controlled by a phase-blending feature.
Users can employ the ARRI Look Library, try ARRI’s Multicam looks or build their own LUTs. Live painting remains possible regardless of which look is chosen, said ARRI.
With the need for a separate high-speed camera now eliminated, the HFR content has the same ARRI look as the regular feed, ensuring consistent visual style is maintained across both live coverage and highlight reels.
