Travelling light with HEVC

Mobile 3G/4G communications specialist Mobile Viewpoint is showcasing a ‘ruggedised’ H265 encoder at IBC this week.

The Live Link 265 features eight modems, WiFi and fixed Ethernet connections and delivers HEVC (H.265) HDR video using a dedicated hardware platform that combines low power hardware-accelerated encoding and wireless transmission of broadcast-quality video.

The new HEVC-enabled software is compliant with the FLEX IO encoding and O2 decoding products.

The Live Link 265 was designed to meet the demand for a light HEVC encoder that can fit in a backpack or at the back of ENG camera, said the company.

The unit has an integrated antenna array and provides SDI and HDMI input. The unit also provides balanced analogue audio inputs for high-quality audio transmission. It supports transmission via Ka-sat and BGAN satellite and has a default storage capacity
of 120GB that can be upgraded to 1TB.

The casing is milled from a solid aluminium bar, which makes it resilient to external forces and able to survive drops of more than two metres.

The unit comes by default as a camera mount solution, but can also be used with a smaller camera fitted in a backpack with V-mount battery clip.

Michel Bais, managing director, Mobile Viewpoint, said: “With the WMT Live Link we are introducing a new generation of mobile encoders offering HEVC encoding in a unique aluminium casing. The Live Link platform combines hardware encoding with an Intel-based processor.

This combination offers a future-proof solution enabling new services like post production automation and multi-camera synchronisation. With our new services, the future of mobile news gathering starts now.”
