Significant improvements to the NVISION 9000 router control system will be showcased by Miranda, with new customer options for upgrades now possible thanks to bi-directional communications with all NVISION routing systems and beyond.
“Broadcasters are often faced with ageing infrastructures and the prospect of cripplingly expensive upgrade paths – especially with routing systems,” said Marco Lopez, Miranda’s vice president of Infrastructure and Routing. “The next-generation NVISION 9000 controller, and its associated transition programme, eliminates many of those obstacles by providing centralised, integral command and control and a straight-line route to total modernisation – at a fraction of the cost of alternative options.”
The new NVISION 9000 allows existing routing infrastructures to be completely modernised in a three-step progression: first adding a hybrid NVISION router with 3Gbps/HD capabilities under a supported legacy, third party controller; then expanding the new routing system with added capacity and the NVISION 9000 controller and control panels; finally comes a full switchover to the new NVISION 9000 controller and panel system, which includes drivers for the legacy routing infrastructure via its native control protocol.
Miranda suggested that the plan could allow SD systems to migrate to 3Gbps/HD without scrapping an existing routing and control system. Also, the company claimed that bridging to legacy routers with the NVISION 9000 minimises disruptions as the transition takes place, and at a modest cost when compared to a complete overhaul.
Said Lopez: “A routing system is a significant long-term investment. Ensuring ongoing interoperability between new devices and old equipment typically requires a long and expensive transition period that can put a painful strain on CAPEX budgets. Fortunately for broadcasters actively considering such a migration, the introduction of the new NVISION 9000 control system has made it far easier operationally, and at a price point that won’t frighten the finance director.”
