India’s Hathway Cable & Datacom has chosen a high-performance video processing solution from Ericsson, enabling it to offer High Definition content to its digital cable TV customers for the first time, writes Ian McMurray.

Hathway Cable & Datacom’s HD services have been initially rolled out to consumers in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore, before it is extended to the operator’s complete network. Ericsson’s MPEG-4 AVC HD video processing solution delivers the efficiency and performance to meet Hathway Cable & Datacom’s high standards for picture quality and flexibility. Ericsson says that this development reaffirms its commitment towards leading the Indian cable TV industry beyond digitisation towards the emergence of a ‘Networked Society.’

“Our contribution, distribution and direct-to-home video processing solutions are best-in-class and we work with the world’s leading and most innovative broadcasters and operators to manage bandwidth efficiency and deliver the best picture quality,” said Parvaiz Ahsan, Head of EMEIA, Solution Area TV, Ericsson (pictured). “We are focused on enabling the optimum video quality at the lowest possible bitrates. This also frees up bandwidth for new and premium video services, driving new revenue models and enabling a richer consumer experience. We’re pleased to provide Hathway Cable & Datacom with the solutions it requires to deliver HD services to its viewers and offer their favourite content in the highest possible quality.”
