Channel 4 to remote produce 2024 Paris Paralympics from Wales

Whisper is planning to build new state-of-the-art technical facilities, including production galleries and edit suites, as part of its work with the broadcaster

Channel 4 is working with Whisper to remote produce its coverage of next summer’s Paralympics from Cardiff.

Speaking at the Wales Screen Summit 2023, Channel 4 chief content officer Ian Katz said the move would be a “really significant boost to the Welsh production sector”.

Coverage of the 2024 Paris Paralympics will be produced by Whisper in Cardiff, making it the biggest sports production to ever be based in Wales.

Whisper currently has a team of 25 based in the nation, with the project enabling them to expand their presence significantly, said Katz.

Approximately 200 staff will be based in the region for the games, which will be remotely produced with the on-screen team in Paris.

“This partnership will allow Whisper to build new state-of-the-art technical facilities, including production galleries and edit suites,” Katz added.  “And we hope the new facilities will leave a lasting legacy and encourage other events and programmes to come to the new hub.”

As part of its plans for the Paralympics, Whisper is also launching Whisper Academy to train the next generation of production talent.
