Viacom to retire VIVA by end of 2018

Comedy Central in Germany will fill the void

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has announced that it is closing down German music channel VIVA at the end of this year.

The company revealed that it was “retiring Viva from its local brand portfolio.”

The UK version of the music channel stopped broadcasting in January this year.

Viva shares the slot with Comedy Central in Germany, which will be expanded to a 24-hour service as of January 1st 2019.

“The Comedy Central brand has demonstrated consistent successful performance in Germany,” said Raffaele Annecchino, president and MD of VIMN Southern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa.

“After five consecutive quarters of year-on-year growth, we have decided to expand the Comedy Central channel offer to a full 24-hours, beginning in January.”
