Sky has written a letter to Italian football league Serie A expressing its concern over the partnership between DAZN and Telecom Italia to secure broadcast rights could harm competition.
According to Reuters, Sky said: “Such a distribution accord may potentially generate competition issues.
“In the interest of millions of Italian football fans, we believe it’s extremely important Serie A matches are distributed across all platforms and the broadest number of devices possible,” it added.
Earlier this week it was revealed DAZN has signed a deal with Telecom Italia that includes distribution and technological support as well as financing of around €1 billion for its bid to broadcast the next three seasons of Serie A.
DAZN has offered €840 million per season for the rights to Italy’s top football league, it’s thought Telecom Italia could provide about €340 million a year in a content-distribution deal.
