Helen Weedon, owner and senior account director, Radical Moves
Talk us through an average day in your role
My days can be quite varied as I wear a number of hats. It generally involves lots of calls with clients, some article and blog writing, checking social media posts, planning the next wave of content, and reading through magazines (including TVBEurope of course). I also am continually looking out for upcoming speaking opportunities to submit to on behalf of clients as well as awards submissions.
How did you get started in the media industry?
I landed my first job in PR because a small agency was looking for a language specialist and I did a degree in French and German. That led me to later getting a job as a PR Executive at Dolby, which threw me into this industry. When my first child was born, I wanted the flexibility to be at home for her, so I decided to go freelance but stayed with the industry I had got to know. 16 years later and I’m still doing what I love.

What training did you have before entering the industry?
None at all, at least not industry specific but I’ve learnt a lot along the way.
Why do you enjoy working in the industry?
Lots of reasons. This industry is full of some really nice people who are an absolute pleasure to work with. I also find it fascinating and am continually learning about the technology aspect behind broadcast.
What advice would you offer someone looking to explore a role similar to yours?
Read lots of relevant magazines to understand what they are writing about and how they approach it and talk to as many people as possible to understand the impact different products and services have on the industry as a whole.
