Meet the… head of business development

Accedo's Abdul Haleem describes the media tech industry as a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs, and urges everyone to be curious

Talk us through an average day in your role

My typical day involves working on various business development activities. This includes partnership activity with ecosystem vendors, identifying market trends and challenges, as well as participating in industry forums and shows, often joining to deliver a presentation or keynote speech.

How did you get started in the media industry

My first job was as a SLA engineer responsible for content management and censorship system for a large pay-TV operator in Malaysia back in 2003.

What training did you have before entering the industry?

Almost none related to the industry. I was very lucky to get my first broadcast job and learn from there.

Why do you enjoy working in the industry?

I don’t think there is another industry out there, which brings this much fun and technology advancement, coupled with roller-coaster ride ups and downs and glamour.

What bit of advice would you offer someone looking to explore a role similar to yours?

Build your network and maintain it – as the saying goes β€œit’s not what you know, but who you know.” Be curious and continue to learn.
