NTV-Plus to end 3D broadcast in 2016

Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus is to cease broadcasting of its 3D channel NTV-Plus 3D on January 1

Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus is to cease broadcasting of its 3D channel NTV-Plus 3D on January 1.

It will also stop offering its subscribers five other channels: Fight Club on December 25 and Kinosoyuz, HD Kino 2, Kinoreys 1 and Kinoreys 2 on January 1.

DTH reportedly did not see any prospects for further developing the 3D channel.

The news comes after the head of Gazprom Media announced that the company had decided to reduce the number of sports channels in its portfolio from 20 to 12. Following this, there were plans to use all possible synergies through a unified purchase system and the use of TV rights.

The Fight Club channel has been merged with martial arts channel Fighter. Gazprom Media, owned by NTV-Plus, recently acquired RTR assets – which include the channels Sport, Sport 1 and Sport 1 HD – decided on the merge after deciding that the content offered on the two channels were too similar to continue broadcasting separately.
