Ncam Technologies acquired by Zeiss

Camera tracking specialist Ncam Technologies has been bought by lens manufacturer Zeiss, bringing Ncam’s hybrid tracking technology into Zeiss' cinema product portfolio

UK camera tracking specialist Ncam Technologies has been acquired by Zeiss, it has been announced. Zeiss announced that the acquisition expands its technology portfolio for the cinema, broadcast, and visual effects industries to deliver high quality tracking and VFX solutions for professional production workflows.

Ncam’s hybrid camera tracking technology uses a range of tracking methods to spatially track cameras indoors and outdoors, with acquired data playing an important role in for virtual production, live compositing and post production.

“We are happy to be combining Ncam’s unique tracking technology with Zeiss’ long-standing expertise in cinema lenses, lens data and the cinema market,” said Christophe Casenave who is responsible for the cine portfolio at Zeiss. “This enables us to think beyond current camera tracking capabilities to offer innovative solutions especially for visual effects, virtual production and other applications.”

Brice Michoud, head of research and development at Ncam added, “The team is excited to be working together with our new colleagues at Zeiss on the next step in camera tracking technology and making it available to more users than ever before.”

The details of the purchase were not disclosed, but Zeiss said that a first product announcement will follow later this summer.
