Mediaset gives Sky control of Premium tech platform

Option was included in a content deal the two companies signed in April

Mediaset has exercised an option to give Sky control of a company that holds the technical, maintenance and administrative assets of its pay-TV unit Premium.

According to a report in Il Sole 24 Ore, the deal is part of the wide-ranging content and distribution agreement the two companies signed earlier this year.

It included the option for Mediaset to sell Premium’s digital terrestrial television (DTT) infrastructure to Sky, including the smart card system, encryption system and decoders.

The commercial partnership between Mediaset and Sky gives Sky’s satellite customers access to Premium’s cinema and TV series channels at no additional cost, with Sky Italia also able to use Mediaset’s pay-TV platform for DTT distribution.
