Mediapro lays off 20 per cent of its workforce

According to the company, the move is part of a "broader effort" to reinforce Mediapro's position in the broadcast and AV sector

Spanish broadcaster and sports rights company Mediapro has reached an agreement to make 20 per cent of its workforce redundant.

According to the company, the move is part of a “broader effort” to reinforce Mediapro’s position in the broadcast and AV sector.

In total, 189 members of staff will leave the company, which Mediapro said is lower than initially projected.

More than 20 senior executives left the company earlier this year when Mediapro implemented a range of cost-efficiency measures across the group.

The measures form part of the restructuring implemented by Mediapro Group’s new leadership team, led by president Sergio Oslé and CEO Carlos Núñez.

Grup Mediapro co-founder Tatxo Benet stepped down as president last year, two years after the departure of fellow co-founder Jaume Roures.

Mediapro is owned by Chinese investment fund Southwind Media Capital (part of Orient Hontai Capital). The company operates 50 offices across 28 countries.
