Following an agreement with the group’s major shareholder, SouthWind, Grup Mediapro chairman and CEO Taxto Benet is stepping down from his position.
His successor has not yet been announced.
Commenting on his departure, Benet said, “I take with me the experience of the past 30 years, and the immense talent and humanity of the more than 55,000 professionals who have worked at the group. I’m confident that this new chapter—one in which none of the three original founders remain—will be just as successful as the past three decades, which have seen Grup Mediapro, a company born and raised in Catalonia, become a global benchmark.”
Beginning his career as a journalist, Benet became a founder member of Televisió de Catalunya (TVC) and was appointed head of sports in 1987. His career has included leading the TV production of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. He co-founded Mediapro with Jaume Roures and Gerard Romy in 2000.
With almost 7,000 members of staff across 50 offices in 28 countries, the group ended 2024 with revenues of €1.068 billion and an EBITDA of €182 million. Featuring 16 production centres in four continents, Grup Mediapro also has one of the world’s largest fleets of OB units and produces more than 25,000 live events around the world every year. Up to 15 channels are produced and operated through its Channels and OTT unit, including partnerships with Movistar and ESPN.
