Lightstorm Vision has acquired creative tech collective Outsyders, aiming to expand 3D across new productions and existing content at scale.
Launched last year, Outsyders AI-driven intelligent 3D pipeline enables cinematic-quality stereoscopic post production at high volume. The group currently has more than five feature films in progress and has previously delivered productions including the IMAX 3D version of Blue Angels and the 3D reimagining of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch (with most of the 2D version brought to 3D in just eight weeks).
Building on a successful recent collaboration between the companies, the acquisition combines Outsyders’ 3D stereoscopic processing platform with Lightstorm Vision’s native capture and production capabilities, aiming to build the industry’s first end-to-end 3D production solution for both new content and existing libraries.
Combining real and synthetic data, the Outsyders platform continuously enhances model accuracy while allowing the creation of premium content much faster and at “significantly lower cost than traditional conversion methods,” said the company. By streamlining the entire 3D workflow, Lightstorm Vision aims to meet growth in demand for professional-grade 3D content, making it as accessible as 2D. The platform improves accuracy and efficiency as it is used, compounding advantage into the production workflow.
