Video engagement company Brightcove has unveiled a plan to reimagine its platform to meet the growing demands of both media and enterprise customers.
Following its acquisition by Bending Spoons last November, Brightcove has been going through a period of transition, including making at least a third of its employees redundant.
Now, the company has announced what it describes as a “strategic evolution” in how it approaches product development, investing in areas such as new AI-powered features developed in-house, enhanced monetisation tools, and a more intuitive user experience.

Brightcove said its new direction is the result of extensive collaboration with more than 50 customers across industries, geographies, and use cases. “These conversations have shaped a product strategy that is designed to meet the evolving needs of modern video teams while delivering measurable business outcomes,” said the company.
The company has set out two strategies going forward: innovation and quality of experience.
This will see the introduction of Ultra HD streaming and a native recommendations engine to the Brightcove platform. Using AI, the company also intends to introduce automated metadata generation, caption generation, translation and audio dubbing in multiple languages, intelligent video clipping and reformatting to optimise for social publishing, and smart content analysis for precise advertising targeting.
In terms of quality of experience, Brightcove said it plans to refine its core platform via targeted initiatives, such as vertical video support, animated thumbnails, and a comprehensive UX/UI revamp.
It also intends to incorporate predictive buffering and adaptive bitrate optimisation to help ensure smoother playback across devices and networks.
Speaking about the company’s vision, Luca Ferrari, CEO of Bending Spoons said: “At Brightcove, our aim is to deliver a powerful and reliable platform that is deeply aligned with the needs of modern media and enterprise users. We’re enthusiastic to bring our new product strategy to life, combining customer insight with Bending Spoons’ AI expertise to build a long-term strategy hand-in-hand with our customers.”
