NBC/Access Hollywood and Sky News will participate in EVS’s technology migration workshop, which is due to take place on 11 April in room C204 of the Central Hall at NAB. The broadcasters will share their experiences in migrating production workflows to fully integrated tapeless environments.
For this event, NBC/Access Hollywood and Sky News will be represented by, respectively, technical & operations manager Erick Diaz and deputy head of technology Bevan Gibson.
The workshop – oriented towards broadcasters and production companies – will be based on two case studies designed to allow attendees to garner a deeper understanding of the tapeless transition process.
In the NBC/Access Hollywood session (11am), Diaz will discuss the transition of NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution hit news magazine Access Hollywood to a full tapeless end-to-end workflow – a process achieved by employing EVS servers and content management tools. This first case study will emphasise the challenges of switching from a linear editing environment to a fully integrated non-linear production with direct impact on speed and efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Sky News HD case study (2.30pm) will find Gibson reflecting on the switch (as of May 2010) to a full HD tapeless solution developed by EVS at facilities in London and Washington. The fully integrated solution covers the entire HD workflow from acquisition to playout, including central storage and media content management. The case study will examine SkyNews’ original technical and production requirements, the advantages of going tapeless, and the leading private European broadcaster’s plans for the future.
EVS marketing & communications director Nicolas Bourdon told TVBE: “No one can talk better than our clients about the ways in which our technology has answered their requirements for faster and more efficient production. The technology implementation workshop intends to present two case studies from broadcasters who have switched their production from tape-based to tapeless workflow. We are proud to invite the representatives of these prestigious broadcast organisations to relate their experiences during such challenging projects.”
