Disney has sold its 50 per cent stake in children’s channel Super RTL to RTL Group.
Super RTL is the most-watched children’s channel in Europe, and was launched in 1999 as a 50-50 joint venture between RTL Deutschland, and BVI Television Investments, Inc., a unit of Disney.
Financial details of the deal have not been revealed, and the sale is still to be approved by regulatory authorities in Germany and Austria.
Disney’s sale follows its decision last year to close its UK channels, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior as it increasingly focuses on streaming service Disney Plus.
