Discovery ‘aims to net the Ashes’

Broadcaster is reportedly in a three horse race to win the rights for the next four years

Discovery is reportedly in a three-horse race to win the rights to this winter’s Ashes.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the broadcaster is up against Sky and BT Sport to win the rights to broadcast Australia v England in the UK.

It’s thought Discovery wants the rights for its new streaming service, Discovery Plus.

Whichever broadcaster is successful, they will win a four-year package to show England matches in Australia, including both the men’s and women’s Ashes, the men’s white-ball tour in 2022 and the Big Bash League franchise.

The Telegraph suggests Discovery sees the Ashes as an opportunity to build on a new customer base established during Tokyo 2020. Discovery Plus will be the new streaming home of the Olympic Games in Europe and Eurosport’s premium sport offering.
